Stanley Park Photowalk

This past week has been great for skiing, unfortunately, I have not gotten to enjoy any of it =( I don’t think I have actually been this sick in 3 or 4 years. I am on the mend and today my friend Jenny came downtown to Stanley Park to visit Tyler and I, and to see and to take pictures of the Herons nesting in Stanley Park. If you have never seen the Herons nesting in Stanley Park I highly recommend it, as it is very interesting to see from the months of March to May. Later in the season the baby herons are around but as the trees get their leaves the view of the nests slowly become more and more obstructed. Today, the sun was hidden behind dense clouds so the Herons are silhouetted, which I think looks kind of neat.

I really like this picture Tyler took last year, 2009, of the Herons nesting, as it also shows how close they are to the urban area of the West End.

We also took a little walk around and of course other pretty Spring flowers are starting to come up.

Patio Garden – Spring 2010

I have always loved plants and flowers and have gotten a lot of joy out of growing plants around the house and on my patio. I don’t care for the ‘cluttered plant’ look and enjoy just a couple of pots with colored flowers to brighten up our balcony. I have been really sick with a cold and was feeling slightly better today and took some time to play around more with the Canon Rebel XSi.

This Spring I had planted crocuses-tulip hybrid bulbs in the fall in our small hanging planter and arranged some sand dollars and shells we had found on various vacations in the planter. Unfortunately, I found out that outdoor exposure has ruined the sand dollars and turned them brownish/green.

Also, I had planted daffodil bulbs this past Fall in the other pot; they have already bloomed and I replaced them with colorful Primulas.

Of course, white lights to put on in the evening adds the final touch and a ‘Summery Feel’.

This Summer I plan on buying another planter and attempting to grow Sweet Peas which are some of my favorite flowers.

Ladies Oregon Road Trip

Currently, one of my best friend’s, Kathleen, is visiting Tyler and I. Kathleen is a friend who I met about 5 years ago through nursing friends, who is a nurse herself. We instantly hit it off and she has been one of my best girlfriends ever since, we even spent one full year working/traveling Australia together in 2006/07.

Kathleen now lives in Ontario, where she is originally from, but is out to visit her former home, Vancouver, for 2 weeks before embarking on a almost 3 month trip to New Zealand and Borneo. She and I are heading off to Oregon for about 6 days to spend some quality ladies time together. We are planning to camp and are spending 3 nights at Crater Lake and 3 nights on the West Coast of Oregon. I also have a friend who lives in Portland, Oregon so we are planning to stop by and have a visit with her too. We are hoping to do a lot of hiking, walking and relaxing amongst Oregon’s beautiful scenery.

I am really going to miss Tyler but spending time with close girlfriends is very important to me too. So, I will have a full update of our trip when I get back. I am particularly looking forward to Crater Lake as I have always wanted to visit there.
